HYPNOTHERAPY FOR PHOBIAS
Online, in Bridport, Dorset and in Axminster, Devon
Fast and effective phobia treatment
Clients with phobias often come to me feeling as though there is something wrong with them. They know on a conscious level they are safe, and they can’t understand why their trigger holds such power over them.
If this sounds like you, you’ve come to the right place! Hypnotherapy is a powerful and effective method of relieving the symptoms of your phobia.
I can treat your phobia comfortably and quickly
It used to be the case that phobias were considered treatable only through long and painful exposure therapy.
Thankfully now, there is an effective treatment that can greatly reduce, and even remove, phobic reactions and symptoms comfortably, gently, and quickly. The treatment in question is the Rewind Technique, and this is what I use as the basis for the majority of my phobia clients with great results.
How do phobias start?
Whether you suffer from a fear of flying, emetophobia, phobia of needles, spiders, or something else entirely, the mechanism behind your phobia is the same.
When we experience a situation where we perceive ourselves to be in danger, our brains carefully encode this information. It gets stored away, ready to keep us safe if a similar situation occurs. As part of this process, traumatic memories can become blocked from becoming narrative memories, sometimes even becoming encoded in the part of the brain called the amygdala, the home of the “fight or flight” response. When our mind perceives we are in a similar situation it flies into a phobic reaction at a speed far beyond conscious awareness or control.
For an event to be considered a traumatic incident, it doesn’t matter whether we are in genuine danger. The fact our brain interprets us as being in danger is enough to make a situation traumatic.
How does hypnotherapy treat phobias
The use of hypnotherapy for phobia treatment allows traumatic memories to be reprocessed by the brain. Reprocessing the traumatic memories enables them to become narrative memories, meaning the brain no longer perceives them as threatening events. So, the power is taken away from the trigger, and given back to you.
What happens in a hypnotherapy session for phobia treatment?
I use a technique called the “Rewind Technique” for treating phobias. The technique allows clients to review memories from a different perspective, removing the fear element. Using this method is almost completely comfortable for clients as they never have to be “inside” the memory as it plays out.
Most clients find the experience very relaxing, however it is not necessary to be relaxed for phobia treatment to be sucessful.
How effective is hypnotherapy for phobias?
Research into the Rewind Technique is still in its infancy, however one study carried out by the Human Givens Institute in the UK Found that:
Study size – 30 people
- 40% of clients rated Rewind as extremely successful
- 53% rated it a successful
- 7% rated it as acceptable
Nobody rated the Rewind Technique as poor or as a failure.
- Prior to the rewind, on average people rated their wellbeing as 12 out of 50
- Seven to Ten days after treatment the average score was 30.3 out of 50
- 3-6 months later, the average wellbeing score was 32.2
